Mark Hobson - On Closer Inspection

Drawing Connections: 40 Years of Art and Hope for the Salish Sea

Take a visual journey through ecological stories that have shaped this region over the past 40 years.

Explore the intersections of art and science, past and present and land and sea. Learn about the importance of coastal wetlands and discover the enchanting world of birds in our Young Ecologist Zone.

Exhibit features artwork by Mark Hobson, Bill Adams, Alison Watt, Briony Penn, Rob Butler, Peggy Frank, Anne Stewart and Peggy Sowden.

If salmon are the lifeblood of our coast, herring are the heartbeat.
Discover how these vital little fish support life on our coast. Learn about their unique way of communicating and so much more!

Sea-Shirt Sundays

Create your own fish fashion! Be sure to bring along:

  1. A pillow case, cloth bag or t-shirt (cloth bags & white kids/youth shirts available for purchase)

  2. $2 for fabric paint

  3. Your creativity

  • Suitable for all ages

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult

  • No registration required

  • Standard admission rates apply; Annual Passes and Memberships accepted

  • $2 fee for fabric paint


Tot Tuesdays (October through April)

Tuesdays 10:30am–11:15am

Bring your preschooler to the Centre for a morning of fun! Parents and preschoolers are invited to join our educators on Tuesday mornings at 10:30am for special ocean-themed stories, crafts and activities. A new topic is explored every week, from Squishy Squids to Turtle Time and more!

  • Suitable for ages 3–5

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult

  • No registration is required however numbers will be limited due to physical space

  • Standard admission rates apply; Annual Passes and memberships accepted

All the excitement of Tot Tuesday BUT on a Sunday! Bring your preschooler to the Centre for a morning of fun! Parents and preschoolers are invited to join our Educators for special ocean-themed stories, crafts and activities.
